One bright and sunny morning, Jesus and His friends were walking toward the city of Jerusalem. People were busy preparing for the festival, and excitement filled the air. Jesus wanted to show everyone that God’s Kingdom was not about power, riches, or armies; it was about love, peace, and kindness.
He asked two of His closest friends to go ahead into the village. He told them they would find a young donkey, one that no one had ever ridden, and to bring it to Him. Sure enough, when they arrived, the donkey was there, just as Jesus had said. They untied it carefully and led it back so Jesus could ride it into the city.
When they returned, they spread their coats over the donkey’s back to make a soft, comfortable seat. Jesus sat down gently and prepared to enter Jerusalem.
As Jesus rode into the city, a huge crowd gathered to see Him. The people were so excited!
They spread their coats along the road, almost like a royal carpet. Some cut palm branches from the trees and waved them or laid them on the ground. Everyone was full of joy, singing and shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the King who comes bringing peace and love!”
The people knew Jesus was different from other kings. He did not arrive with soldiers or gold. Instead, He came gently, riding on a donkey, to show God’s love to everyone.
Reflection
God sometimes chooses ordinary people or simple ways to accomplish extraordinary things. The people welcomed Jesus because they recognized His heart. We can do the same by welcoming Him with joy and following His example of love and peace.
Question
Why do you think Jesus chose to ride a gentle donkey instead of arriving like a powerful king with horses and soldiers?
