WHERE: Old Kampala S.S.S Grounds
The festive mood in Kampala was heightened on December 17, 2025, as Watoto Church Ministries hosted the City Carol’s Night at the Old Kampala S.S.S Grounds.

Held under the theme “Son of God”, the joyous evening marked the opening of Watoto Ministries’ annual three-day Cantata show—an event that is not only entertaining but also educative. Thousands of people thronged the grounds to usher in the festive season through a vibrant display of talent that told the story of the birth of Jesus Christ using music and drama.

As a first of its kind, the City Carol’s Night was organised as a special inter-church carols service. Choirs from various ministries, including Watoto Church, House of Revival, Deliverance Church Makerere, All Saints’ Cathedral Nakasero, Kamanya COU Bunamwaya, and Elim Evangelistic Church, took to the stage. Their melodious and angelic voices brought the joy and meaning of Christmas to life, creating an atmosphere of worship and celebration.

Speaking during the event, Pastor Rwotlonyo, head of Watoto Ministries, noted that the Cantata was the result of extensive preparation. “This Cantata has taken over seven months of preparation, and it has involved a lot of hard work—hundreds, if not thousands, of hours put in by different teams behind the scenes,” he said. He added that the choice of venue was deliberate, as the organisers desired to reach a larger audience that could not be accommodated at Watoto’s downtown location in Kampala. The Old Kampala S.S.S Grounds, he said, provided the perfect setting.
The venue itself was transformed into a breathtaking festive spectacle, adorned with traditional Christmas colours, elaborate decorations and lighting. A major highlight of the night was the lighting of what was described as the tallest Christmas tree in Uganda, drawing cheers and excitement from the crowd.
City Carol’s Night set the tone for the Cantata season, offering attendees a meaningful and joyful start to the Christmas celebrations while reminding them of the true message behind the season—the birth of Jesus Christ.
