Female infertility
Female infertility is generally defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of unprotected intercourse, the causes generally in approximately 40 per cent of cases are ovulation disorders, 20 per cent–35 per cent tubal disorders and 10 per cent–15 per cent endometriosis with 15 per cent–30 per cent of cases remaining unexplained.
Tubal blockage
Tubal blockage is among the tubal disorders where obstructed/closed/clogged fallopian tubes prevent sperm from reaching the egg and inhibiting fertilization. Common causes include pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, and prior pelvic surgeries.
Diagnosis involves an x-ray called a hysterosalpingography (HSG), with IVF (In Vitro Fertilization: which involves assisted reproductive technology where eggs are fertilised by sperm outside the body) often the primary treatment.
