In a small village long ago, a curious boy named Levi loved going on adventures with his grandfather, Grandpa Isaac. Levi’s favourite times were when Grandpa Isaac would take him to sit under a big old olive tree and share stories from the Bible.
One bright, chilly day, Levi asked, “Grandpa, what’s the greatest promise God ever made?”
Grandpa Isaac smiled.
“The greatest promise was to send a Saviour, His Son, Jesus, to save us from our sins,” he replied.
Levi’s eyes widened. “Did God really promise that?” he asked.
“Yes. God promised, and He kept His word! Let me tell you how,” said Grandpa Isaac
The promise of a Saviour
“Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, God told His prophets, His messengers about a special Saviour who would come. One prophet, Isaiah, said that a young woman would have a son and name Him Immanuel, which means ‘God with us,’” Grandpa Isaac added.
“So, God’s Son would come as a baby?” Levi asked.
Grandpa nodded. “Isaiah also said this child would be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, and Prince of Peace,” he added.
Little town of Bethlehem
“Another prophet, Micah, even said where Jesus would be born—in Bethlehem!” Grandpa explained. “So, when it was time, Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem, and Jesus was born in a stable, just as God promised.”
Levi’s eyes sparkled as he said: “Wow, God kept every promise!”
“God even used a bright star to guide wise men from far away to see Jesus. They followed the star, bringing gifts to honour Him, for they knew He was the promised King,” Grandpa said.
The greatest gift
Grandpa Isaac gently added: “You see, Levi, Jesus’ birth wasn’t just any birth. It was the fulfilment of God’s greatest promise. God loved us so much that He sent His Only Son to give us eternal life.”
Levi felt warm inside and said: “So, Christmas is about more than just gifts; it’s about God keeping His promise to us.”
Levi smiled, realising the true meaning of Christmas: God’s love and His faithful promise fulfilled.
Lessons we learn
- God always keeps His promises.
- Faith means trusting God, even when we cannot see everything.
- Jesus is the best gift we could ever receive.
