With food prices rising toward the end of the year, many households are searching for creative ways to prepare a delicious Christmas meal without overspending. The good news? You can still enjoy a full, flavour packed festive spread with less than UGX 30,000. Here are five budget friendly Christmas recipes that bring together aroma, colour and comfort without breaking the bank.

1. Christmas Pilau – UGX 10,000–15,000

A classic Christmas favourite that does not require a lot of money.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rice
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 tomatoes (optional)
  • Pilau masala (UGX 1,000 sachet)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Half green pepper
  • Small pack of beef cubes or broth
  • Cooking oil
  • Salt

Procedure

  1. Fry onions until golden brown.
  2. Add garlic, pepper and pilau masala.
  3. Add raw rice and stir to coat every grain.
  4. Pour in beef broth or water, add salt, simmer on low heat.
  5. Fluff and serve.

Ingredients

  • 1kg Irish potatoes
  • Salt
  • 1 onion
  • Cooking oil
  • Curry powder or paprika

Procedure

  1. Peel and boil potatoes until tender.
  2. Fry onions, then add curry powder.
  3. Add the boiled potatoes and pan-sear until golden.
  4. Sprinkle with salt and serve.

Procedure
