Work is simply the act of doing something meaningfuwith our time, energy, and abilities.
It can involve building, caring, creating, or helping,
anything that brings value and order to life.
From the very beginning, work was part of God’s
good design.
It was not added later, nor was it a punishment; it
was embedded into the fabric of creation itself.
In the book of Genesis, we encounter God as the first
worker.
For six days, He created the world, light and sky,
land and sea, plants, animals, and finally, humanity.
Everything He made was crafted with care and
purpose.
When He had finished, “God saw all that He had
made, and it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).
On the seventh day, “God rested from all His work”
(Genesis 2:2), not because He was weary, but because
His work was complete.
This reveals that work is not a curse, but a calling.
God created mankind in His image (Genesis 1:27),
and part of that image includes both the capacity and
the responsibility to work.
Unfortunately, in today’s world, work is often
viewed merely as a burden or a means to earn a living.
However, Scripture offers a higher perspective.
Colossians 3:23 exhorts us: “Whatever you do, work
at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not
for human masters.”
With this mindset, even the most ordinary task
becomes an act of worship.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of work, not as a burden, but
as a blessing.
You are the Master Creator, and in Your image,
You formed us to build, serve, and care for the world
around us.
Teach us to honour You in all we do, whether in the
fields, offices, homes, or hearts we tend.
Help us to work with joy, excellence, and humility,
knowing that every task done in love brings glory to
Your name.
May our hands be diligent, our hearts faithful, and
our purpose clear:
To serve You and others through the work we do.
