The Church lifestyle extends beyond attending Sunday services—it is a way of life rooted in faith, fellowship, and righteous living. For Christians, this lifestyle shapes their values, strengthens their relationship with God, and prepares them for His kingdom.
From Bible studies to fasting, repentance to evangelism, the Church lifestyle is built on practices that nurture spiritual growth.
Meditation, repentance
For Gorretti Kakai, a dedicated choir leader, meditation is a powerful way to connect with God and find peace during difficult moments. “Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I turn to Scripture, believing that quiet reflection allows me to hear God’s voice clearly. In fact, I hear God’s voice best when I am still and focused on His Word,” she says.
She believes that meditation requires more than just reading a Bible verse—it demands patience, silence, and a heart willing to listen. In her experience, meditation brings clarity, especially when faced with tough decisions. “There have been times when I have felt burdened by life’s struggles, yet after spending time in quiet reflection, I have found peace and renewed strength.”
Kakai recalls a time when she was anxious about her daughter’s school fees. “I couldn’t see a way out, but as I meditated on God’s promise to provide, I felt calm. The situation didn’t change immediately, but I gained the courage to trust God’s timing, and He eventually opened a door,” she says.
She also emphasises that repentance plays a vital role in maintaining a pure heart. Acknowledging that no one is perfect, she believes that by confessing sins and seeking God’s grace, believers experience renewal and spiritual strength.
Fellowship, sharing God’s word
As a youth leader, John Maside sees fellowship and engaging with Scripture as essential parts of the Church lifestyle. He leads weekly Bible studies where young people gather to discuss real-life issues such as relationships, career struggles, and mental health, connecting these struggles to biblical teachings for guidance.
“These open discussions provide a sense of healing and encouragement, helping participants find solutions rooted in God’s Word,” he explains. “Fellowship feels like a spiritual family—a space where believers support each other and remain accountable. When surrounded by people who share your beliefs, you are encouraged to live better.”
Fellowship is not limited to structured gatherings—it also involves spending time with Christian friends, checking in on one another, and being available to offer guidance or prayer when needed. “In my experience, this sense of community helps believers remain grounded. I have seen people who once struggled with addiction find strength through our fellowship. They felt safe enough to share their struggles, and through prayer and guidance, they overcame their battles.”
Maside also practises fasting as a way of drawing closer to God. “For me, fasting isn’t just about avoiding food—it is about disconnecting from distractions and giving God my full attention. During a fast, I avoid social media and other distractions because it helps me focus on God’s Word. By the end of the fast, I feel mentally and spiritually refreshed.”
Practising righteousness, evangelism
Emily Katisi, a mentor to young women in her Church, believes that living with Christian values is the most powerful way to witness to others. “People are influenced more by what they see than what they hear. They watch what we do more than what we say.”
In her experience, simple acts of kindness, honesty, and forgiveness speak volumes: “Whether it’s comforting someone in distress, showing patience in moments of anger, or giving generously to those in need—these actions are powerful ways of demonstrating God’s love.”
She recalls a time when a friend struggled with resentment after a heated argument with a relative. “Encouraging her to forgive and sharing my own story of forgiveness helped her find peace. I reminded her that forgiveness does not mean forgetting—it is about releasing the burden and trusting God to bring healing.”
Katisi believes evangelism is most effective when backed by personal testimony. “Sharing my own struggles—times when I have felt overwhelmed or hopeless—has helped me connect with others and inspire them to trust in God. I have seen people soften their hearts towards God when I tell them how He carries me through my darkest moments,” she says
She also highlights the importance of modesty: “Modesty is about respecting oneself, others, and God. While dressing appropriately matters, true modesty comes from the heart. A person can appear modest outwardly yet still harbour pride, bitterness, or dishonesty.”
Living the Church lifestyle is about more than routines—it is about making intentional choices that reflect God’s teachings. Through meditation, righteous living, and strong Christian fellowship, believers prepare themselves for God’s kingdom.
