He is not here, He is risen, the tomb is empty

John 20:1-18

On the Sunday before Easter, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was joyously celebrated on Palm Sunday as He entered the city of Jerusalem. Crowds shouted: “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord” (Mark 11:9). Many believed His triumphant entry signified that He would soon be crowned King of Israel and deliver them from Roman oppression. They expected Him to ride in on a grand chariot, yet He arrived humbly, seated on a colt, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9.

What followed, however, was unimaginable brutality—the kind no human has ever endured. This suffering culminated in Jesus’ crucifixion and His subsequent death on the cross.

But the story of Jesus did not end at the cross. He was crucified, buried, and on the third day, He rose from the dead—glory to God! (1 Corinthians 15:3-7, Mark 15:42-47). The empty tomb stands as a powerful testament to Christ’s victory over death.

God raised Jesus from the dead, defeating sin and the forces of darkness. Our risen Saviour became the bridge by which humanity is reconciled to God when we call upon His name.

In John 11:25, Jesus declares: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” He longs for everyone to recognise Him as the Truth (John 14:6).

My friend, you too can respond to Jesus’ call to salvation. He loves you and desires to transform your heart and life completely. As stated in John 1:12: “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”

As we celebrate Easter, let us remember Jesus’ victory over death and the gift of eternal life that He offers to all who believe in Him.
