Jesus feeds 5,000 people

You can find this story in all four Gospels: Matthew 14, Mark 6, Luke 9, and John 6.

One day, Jesus and His disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee. They were tired and wanted a quiet place to rest. They had been teaching and helping many people. But the crowd saw them leave and followed them on foot. Thousands of men, women, and children walked to find Jesus.

When Jesus saw the big crowd, He wasn’t upset. He felt love and care for them. They looked like sheep without a shepherd. Jesus knew they were hungry—not just in their tummies, but also in their hearts. So He welcomed them, taught them about God’s Kingdom, and healed those who were sick.

Later that day, the disciples said, “It’s getting late. Send the people away so they can find food.” But Jesus said, “You give them something to eat.”

The disciples were puzzled. “How can we feed so many people?” they asked. Then Andrew, one of the disciples, said, “There’s a boy here with five small loaves of bread and two fish. But that’s not enough for everyone.”

Jesus told the people to sit down on the grass. There were about 5,000 men—not counting women and children! He took the bread and fish, looked up to heaven, thanked God, and began to break the food into pieces. He gave it to the disciples, who passed it to the people.

Something amazing happened—the food didn’t run out! Everyone ate until they were full. When they finished, the disciples collected twelve baskets of leftover food. The people were amazed. They said, “Surely this is the special prophet who was to come!”

But Jesus knew they wanted to make Him king for the wrong reasons, so He quietly went away to pray.
