Popcorn has long been a favorite snack in cinemas, parties, and in living rooms. Beyond its crunch and aroma, it is one of the easiest and most affordable treats to prepare at home. Whether enjoyed plain, buttery, or sweetened, popcorn remains a versatile snack that can be customized to suit every taste.
Ingredients
- ½ cup popcorn kernels(maize).
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil (vegetable, sunflower, or canola)
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for flavor)
- Salt to taste
- Sugar, honey, or caramel (optional, for a sweet version)
Procedure
- Place a large saucepan or pot on medium heat and add the cooking oil.
- Drop in two or three kernels to test the heat. Once they pop, the oil is ready.
- Pour in the rest of the popcorn kernels and cover the pot with a lid.
- Shake the pot gently every few seconds to prevent burning and to ensure even popping.
- When the popping slows to about 2–3 seconds between pops, remove the pot from the heat.
- Melt the butter separately and drizzle it over the popcorn, then sprinkle with salt for a savory taste.
- For a sweet option, add sugar while the popcorn is still hot or coat with honey or caramel for a glossy finish, wait for it to cool, then serve.
