Christ in sport

Eberechi Eze has said his greatest goal in football is not fame or trophies, but to glorify God through his life and career.

The 27-year-old Arsenal F.C. midfielder shared his testimony in an interview released online on February 19, 2026, during an appearance on the Men in Blazers show. Eze said he hopes people will one day say that in everything he did, he glorified Jesus.

The England international, who previously played for Crystal Palace F.C., spoke openly about how his Christian faith has shaped his journey in football.

He recalled the difficult moment when he was released from Arsenal’s academy at the age of 13. Despite the disappointment, he said his faith in God and encouragement from his mother kept him going.

Eze said perseverance through rejection required both prayer and hard work. He remained committed to football, believing that with effort, faith and daily prayer, the opportunity would eventually come.

The midfielder described faith as the anchor of his life. According to him, following the teachings of Jesus Christ helps him understand how to treat others, love people and live beyond personal ambition.

Eze is also part of a group of Christian players at Arsenal known as the “Bible Brothers,” who meet regularly for prayer and Bible study to strengthen their faith and support one another.
