The Startimes Uganda Premier League 2024/25 season wrapped up with Vipers SC clinching the title for the seventh time since the league’s inception in 1968. They were crowned champions, lifting the trophy in front of their fans after a season of dominance. The final matchday saw Vipers draw 1-1 against Soltilo Bright Stars FC, a result that sealed their championship. This victory earned them a spot in the CAF Champions League for the next season, while the runners-up (likely NEC FC, based on historical competitiveness) qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Brian Ssenyondo appointed coach alongside Jackson Magera
The transfer window has kicked off with a bang as KCCA FC makes a bold move by appointing two coaches to lead the team simultaneously. Brian Ssenyondo joins as the new head coach, working alongside Jackson Magera, who will serve as co-coach
Ssenyondo has an impressive history of success, having won the Uganda Cup with Kitara in 2024 and the Cecafa U-17 title. He also made history by leading the Uganda Cubs to the FIFA U-17 World Cup, marking the first time a Ugandan national football team qualified for a global tournament
Jude Ssemugabi to South Sudanese Champions Jamus.
South Sudanese champions Jamus is on the verge of completing the signing of Ugandan forward Jude Ssemugabi from Kitara FC. The prolific striker, who netted 10 goals for Kitara last season, is now set to take his talent beyond borders with a move to Juba.
While Ssemugabi had been strongly linked with a switch to KCCA, and reports also suggested a possible agreement with Vipers SC, Jamus have now emerged as the front-runners. The South Sudanese giants, who have been highly active in the current transfer window, are expected to unveil Ssemugabi as their 15th new signing.
The club has already confirmed 14 new signings so far, including Richard Anyama, Jaffar Kerepi, William Gama, Felix Obama, Hassan Wasswa, Shabani Kagayo, Josue Manuma, Fichal Ouro Guezere, Houessi Hariston Hessou, Hergy Samoni, Madut Chol, Martin Otwao, Kevin Muhire and Peter Chan
Uganda in CHAN.
The Uganda Cranes are gearing up for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled for August 2–30, 2025, with renewed determination as co-hosts alongside Kenya and Tanzania. This marks Uganda’s seventh appearance in the tournament, and the team under the guidance of coaches Paul Put, Fred Muhumuza, and Morley Byekwaso is aiming to finally move past the group stage, a feat that has eluded them in previous editions.
The Cranes kicked off training on June 23, 2025, with a 41-man provisional squad. They’re camped in Kampala, focusing on fitness, tactics, and team cohesion. Uganda’s Group C draw includes tough opponents like Niger, Guinea, South Africa Algeria. Put has emphasized resilience and leveraging home support at Kampala’s venues, aiming to break Uganda’s group-stage curse from past tournaments
A notable addition to the squad is NEC FC forward Paul Mucureezi, who was called up on June 22, 2025. The 31-year-old, who replaces rising U17 talent James Bogere, brings a wealth of experience and creativity after an impressive season in the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League.
Mucureezi joins forces with standout players like Milton Karisa and Yunus Sentamu, adding depth and flexibility to Uganda’s attacking options. With just one CHAN victory in their history against Namibia in 2018 and no advancement beyond the group stage, the Cranes are hungrier than ever.
