Steamed box meat is a good option for people that prefer boiled foods to fried. It is usually prepared by putting the meat in a dish, commonly known as “box” and placed on top of other food or even covered alone with banana leaves.
Below is the procedure on how to try it at the comfort of your home for your family.
INGREDIENTS
• 1kg of meat (Beef)
• 4 banana leaves
• Charcoal
• 1 medium sized carrot
• 2 big onions
• 1 medium sized greenpepper
• 3 garlic cloves
• Ginger
• Salt
•1 medium sized onion
• ¼ table spoon blackpepper
- Royco or masala (optional)
PROCEDURE
• Get your meat (beef) and smoke it on charcoal with banana peelings so that it does not burn. You can cover it with a banana leaf as you keep monitoring until readily browned.
• After, cut the meat into various desirable pieces of your choice and after place them in a saucepan.
• Prepare your carrots, greenpepper, onions, garlic, ginger, and tomatoes and then pour them in your saucepan with sliced meat.
• Put your saucepan on medium heat and start stir frying as it cooks.
• When your ingredients are half cooked, pour in your royco powder and chicken masala plus any other ingredient of your choice (this is optional here).
• Stir fry and they cook, then add salt and blackpepper. Continue stir frying and pour in some water; make sure everything dissolves well, do not let it to boil.
• Get your box(dish) pour in your mixture, get a small banana leaf and put it on top, then cover.
• In another saucepan prepare your banana leaves with water then put the box cover well with more banana leaves, then cover another saucepan on top, so that they get enough heat to get ready.
• Put your saucepan on fire, and let your it cook for three good hours and more till ready.
• You can now serve your steamed meat with any meal of your choice, like rice and matooke, greens, avocado and a glass of juice. Enjoy.
