By Pastor Samuel Namatiiti
The Bible is no ordinary book, it is the living Word of God. It reveals the mind of God, the state of humanity, the path to salvation, the fate of sinners, and the joy of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its commands binding, its history truthful, and its judgments final.
Read it to gain wisdom, believe it to find safety, and practise it to grow in holiness. It is a light for your path, spiritual nourishment for your soul, and comfort in times of sorrow. The Bible is the traveller’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter. Within its pages, paradise is restored, heaven is unveiled, and hell’s gate is revealed.
Christ is its central focus. Our good is its intention, and the glory of God is its ultimate aim. Let it fill your memory, govern your heart, and guide your steps. Read it slowly, regularly, carefully, and prayerfully. It is a mine of spiritual riches, a garden of glory, and a river of delight. It is given to us for this life, will be opened in judgment, and remembered for eternity. It involves the greatest responsibility, promises the highest reward, and warns of consequences for those who neglect it (Amplified from HB Commentary).
Authored by the Spirit
The primary author of the Bible is the Holy Spirit. Though written by various human hands, each writer was inspired by the Spirit of God. The Bible consists of sixty-six canonical books, forming a divine library divided into two main parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament.
The Old Testament contains thirty-nine books and the New Testament twenty-seven. But more than this, the Bible can be understood in three overarching segments. The first is the Old Testament, where God the Father is the central figure. The second is the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—where Jesus Christ, the Son, takes centre stage. The third begins with the Acts of the Apostles and runs through the Epistles to Revelation. In this section, the Holy Spirit becomes the primary agent, guiding and empowering believers from the early Church to today.
Whenever we open the Bible, we are brought face to face with the Trinity. It is God’s chosen means to speak directly to us. As we read, we hear from Him; and in prayer, we respond to him. This is divine communication in its purest form.
Divine letter to us
The Bible is like a personal letter from God, intended for the inner person, the true self. It is essential for spiritual nourishment and growth. We must make time to read it, as it speaks of eternal realities far beyond our earthly preoccupations.
In John 10:10, Jesus reveals the strategy of humanity’s greatest enemy, Satan: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” Satan’s mission is to distract us from eternal life by filling our days with fleeting, earthly concerns. He aims to keep us so preoccupied that we forget the reality of life after death and the wellbeing of our souls.
One of Satan’s most subtle weapons is busyness. He entangles us in the affairs of daily life, leaving little time for God’s Word or for prayer. Yet every one of us has the same twenty-four hours in a day. It is up to us to schedule time wisely and ensure that God has his place in our lives.
Read, be transformed
The Bible contains the very thoughts of God. Its words have the power to bring spiritual healing, renew our minds, and revive our physical bodies. Unlike any other text, the Scriptures possess divine power—deep enough to bring peace, broad enough to shape character, and strong enough to sustain us through life’s darkest days.
In these uncertain times, the need for God’s Word is more urgent than ever. Make it your priority to read and meditate on Scripture daily. Allow its truth to shape your thoughts, fuel your prayers, and anchor your hope. The Word of God is not just a book, it is life, strength, and salvation.
