Faithful stewardship: Living beyond Christian confession

By Kate Sali

We grow as faithful stewards by remaining rooted in Jesus Christ through prayer, obedience, and consistent reading of His Word. A faithful steward understands that everything belongs to God; our lives, gifts, families, resources, and even creation itself (Psalm 24:1). God has entrusted humanity with the responsibility to care for people, animals, and the earth with wisdom, compassion, and integrity (Genesis 2:15,19). As believers, we are called to reflect God’s love through responsible living and faithful service wherever He has placed us.

Our Christian journey requires total dependence on God because without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us to trust in the Lord wholeheartedly rather than relying on our own understanding. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, believers are strengthened to walk in obedience, love, and accountability (Romans 8:14).

Accountability is key and is essentially important within families, marriages, churches, and communities. For example, husbands and wives are called to love, honour, and remain faithful to one another as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25). Parents are to raise their children in godliness and wisdom (Proverbs 22:6). Within the Church family, believers should encourage, correct, and support one another in love (Hebrews 10:24-25). Faithful stewardship also means serving with honesty, humility, and compassion toward others.

God desires His children to bear good fruit wherever they are planted (John 15:8, 16). Through faithful stewardship, accountability, prayer, and obedience, the body of Christ becomes a true reflection of His light and love in the world.

Jesus compares himself to the vine and you and I to the branches. Surely without abiding in Him we can do nothing (John 15: 4-5).

Let us all be encouraged that God, through His Son Jesus, has given us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to abide and teach us all things (John 14:26).
