There is an inseparable link between working and eating. Where eating occurs without working, it is a form of injustice; and where work is done without reward, it is a form of abuse. In today’s world, many consume without contributing, which stands in opposition to the will of God and undermines the purpose for which we were created.
We were made to work and to find satisfaction in the fruit of our labour. Work is not a curse, nor is it punishment. Only the sick, disabled, and very young are excused from labour, but even toddlers should be given age-appropriate responsibilities to instil this principle early. We were created for purposeful activity. Food becomes truly meaningful when it is earned; it nourishes not just the body, but also the soul, and contributes to the well-being of the wider community.
